About THE Grand Hotel Cavour

For all seven nights of your stay in Tuscany, you’ll call the Grand Hotel Cavour home—an elegant 4-star retreat set right in the historic heart of Florence. Perfectly located between the iconic Duomo and Piazza della Signoria, this stylish hotel places you just steps from Florence’s most treasured landmarks, including the Uffizi Gallery, Palazzo Vecchio, Ponte Vecchio, and the city’s best boutiques and gelaterias. Nestled on a quiet cobbled street, the hotel offers a peaceful refuge from the bustle, yet you’re never more than a few minutes’ walk from the art, architecture, and atmosphere that make Florence unforgettable. You’ll wake each day in the very cradle of the Renaissance, where the spirit of Michelangelo, Dante, and Leonardo da Vinci still lingers.

Inside, the Grand Hotel Cavour blends historic charm with modern comfort. Rooms are individually styled, with plush furnishings, elegant bathrooms, and thoughtful touches throughout. The rooftop terrace—boasting panoramic views over Florence’s terracotta rooftops and Brunelleschi’s dome—is a true highlight. With everything at your doorstep, including fabulous cafés and restaurants, this is the ultimate base for your Tuscan escape—offering the comfort of unpacking just once, and the luxury of being in the heart of it all.

Weather

Tuscany shares the classic Mediterranean climate—hot, dry summers and cool, wetter winters. Spring (April to June) and autumn (September to October) are the sweet spots to visit. You’ll get plenty of sunshine, mild temperatures, and fewer tourists—perfect for wandering hill towns and sipping wine alfresco. Summer (July and August) can get scorching, especially in cities like Florence where the heat lingers in the stone streets. Expect temps around 30–35°C, so plan your days around early starts, shady lunches, and maybe an afternoon dip if your accommodation has a pool. Winter is generally mild in the valleys but can be cold and damp, especially in the hills.

Money

Tuscany, like the rest of Italy, uses the Euro (€). Prices are usually written with a comma instead of a decimal—so €7,50 means seven euros and fifty cents. While most places accept cards, cash is still handy for small towns, local markets, and charming trattorias tucked away in the countryside. Always keep a few coins for toll roads and public bathrooms too.

Electricity

Electricity in Tuscany runs on 220 volts with a frequency of 50 Hz, just like most of Europe. Plug types C, F, and L are used, so bring a universal adapter if you’re coming from outside the EU. Most accommodations will have sockets that fit multiple plugs, but it’s always wise to pack your own adapter—especially if you’re heading off the beaten track.

Visas

Visitors from Australia, New Zealand, the UK, and many non-EU countries can enter Italy (including Tuscany) for up to 90 days without a visa. Just make sure your passport has at least six months’ validity from your departure date. If you’re planning a longer stay or working while you’re there, check the latest entry rules before you go.

Language

Italian is the official language throughout Tuscany. You’ll also hear some delightful local dialects, especially in rural areas, but everyone speaks standard Italian. English is widely spoken in tourist spots like Florence, Pisa, and Siena, but a few polite Italian phrases (think: per favore, grazie, un caffè per favore) will earn you extra smiles from locals—and might even get you better service.

What Two’s a Crowd clients say

George
The location in Venice was fantastic, you could not have chosen better.
Chris
My Italian Interlude was a wonderful experience. Much better than expected. There were just so many "OMG" highlights. Loved not having to unpack and pack every day. Beautiful locations especially Terre di Baccio. I enjoyed meeting the families of our local hosts and guides. Added to the Italian experience. Everyone was always so helpful and friendly. The itinerary was full of amazing experiences but I also enjoyed the free/down time. Very relaxing. I loved being able to come back to my own room for a siesta so that I could enjoy the long summer Italian evenings. Along with a refreshing Aperol Spritz/prosecco or a wine or two!!! And as for Gillian - a fabulous host. Fun,caring, kind, patient and now a new friend.
Pauline
I had a wonderful trip, great group of people and Gillian was an excellent tour leader. The local guides were outstanding. I have been travelling for many years and I would have to say this was one of the best organised and happiest trips I have done.
Lorraine
A wonderful experience with treasured memories I'll reflect on for years to come.I liked the locations of all the hotels being within easy walking distance to town centers
Helen
I had a wonderful time in Italy. The trip was organised beautifully, from accommodation to daily adventures. Free time versus organised time was excellent. I would recommend your group travel to my friends as the entire holiday was filled with great sightseeing and fun. All guides were very professional and knowledgable also very friendly and great personalities.

I had a great time and I saw and experienced everything I thought I would... Diane was great and kept the group mostly positive and in an upbeat mood. The standout restaurant was the Royal Cafe in Rome! Amazing food, great atmosphere, excellent service, 10/10.
Jo
I saw some amazing quintessential sites of Italy but also some places a bit off the beaten track which is important. I loved Tuscany and the fact we were settled there for a week in an amazing farmhouse.
Max
I loved the time in Tuscany - the accommodation there was great. The highlights of the trip revolved around Terra di Baccio at Greve, Good breakfasts and a number of high grade meals were a feature.
Nellie
My trip to Italy was fantastic! I absolutely loved Greve and our wonderful Terra di Baccio. Venice was amazing too. So much to see and do the two weeks seemed like a month. Diane was fantastic, so helpful and easy to get along with. She was a joy to be with.

Carol
I enjoyed the trip and was thankful that we were able to visit places that were not on all tourists' agenda. Diane was extremely caring and helpful and endeavoured to satisfy everyone's requirements. Tour Guides, Francesca in Rome and Sylvia in Siena were excellent. The meal on the truffle hunting experience at San Miniato and the meals at Terre di Baccio were wonderful.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the Italian Tour and has a fantastic time. As a first time Solo Traveller, I enjoyed the smaller group of people and the interesting and fun activities organised - as I had been to Italy on 2 previous occasions, I had already been to the main tourist attractions but did enjoy them again as there was 10 and 40 years between seeing some of the again. I did enjoy the Vespa rise through Tuscany - heaps of fun, the Truffle Hunt and Lunch, Orvieto, Siena, San Gimignano and Burano.
Amelia
Italy was wonderful, the people in the group were lovely, and we saw a lot within the 2 weeks we were there.
