Why Solo Travellers Love This Tour
Africa can feel like the most daunting of solo destinations — the scale, the logistics, the sheer number of moving parts. This tour removes every one of those barriers while delivering an experience so rich, so varied, and so expertly timed that past travellers consistently call it the trip of a lifetime.
You’ll travel with a small, like-minded group of fellow solo adventurers — 14 maximum — forming genuine connections over shared sundowners, safari sightings, and evenings under the African stars.
March is one of the finest months to experience this journey: Victoria Falls is at thundering peak flow, the landscapes are lush and green, birdlife is at its annual peak, and the Big Five are active and accessible across every reserve.

A genuinely historic and thrilling wildlife experience.
- Kingdom of Eswatini — Royal Cultural Immersion Cross into one of Africa’s last remaining monarchies for two days of extraordinary cultural immersion. Walk through the Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary — free of large predators and perfect for exploring on foot. Visit the Umphakatsi Chief’s homestead for a hands-on cultural experience of traditional Swazi life — grinding maize, plaiting grass, joining song and dance, and sharing a traditional Swazi lunch. Learn about conservation at the Roan Antelope breeding project. One of the most meaningful and memorable stops on the entire journey.
- Panorama Route — Blyde River Canyon & God’s Window One of South Africa’s most spectacular drives. A landscape that defies superlatives.

Optional experiences include hot air balloon flights, helicopter scenic rides, guided bush walks, and spa treatments.
- Victoria Falls — “The Smoke That Thunders” March is arguably the finest time of year to witness Victoria Falls — the world’s largest waterfall — as the Zambezi runs at peak flow, sending thundering plumes of spray visible from kilometres away. A guided tour of the Falls is followed by lunch at The Lookout Café with views straight into the gorge. This evening, glide upstream on a Zambezi River sunset cruise aboard a bohemian dhow as the sky turns gold and the sound of the falls echoes across the water. Pure magic.
- Chobe National Park, Botswana — Elephant Capital of the World Cross into Botswana for an extraordinary dual safari experience in Chobe National Park — home to the largest concentration of elephants on earth, with herds of several hundred animals congregating along the Chobe River. An early morning jeep safari is followed by a late afternoon game-viewing river cruise — watching elephants, hippos, crocodiles, and abundant birdlife from the water as the African sun sets behind the floodplains. One of the great wildlife experiences on the planet.

After breakfast, depart Johannesburg and begin the overland journey into the heart of rural South Africa — a drive that reveals the country’s extraordinary variety, from urban sprawl to wide-open farmland, rolling grasslands dotted with cattle and crops, and small villages where daily life unfolds at an unhurried pace.
After a relaxed lunch stop en route, continue into the historically charged landscape of KwaZulu-Natal and arrive in Dundee — a region that witnessed some of the most dramatic events in southern African history. Settle in for two nights at the atmospheric Battlefields Country Lodge, with drinks at the thatched-roof bar before a relaxed dinner this evening.

DAY 3 – Sunday 14th March 2027 KWAZULU-NATAL BATTLEFIELDS — BLOOD RIVER, RORKE’S DRIFT & TALANA MUSEUM (B/L/D)
A full and profoundly moving day exploring two of the most significant battlefields in southern African history — sites that shaped the modern nation and whose stories still resonate powerfully today.
Begin at Blood River — scene of the legendary 1838 confrontation between Voortrekker settlers and the Zulu army, now marked by a dramatic bronze reconstruction of the laager that stood here. Continue to Rorke’s Drift — made famous by the extraordinary 1879 defence in which a small garrison of British soldiers withstood an attack by thousands of Zulu warriors in one of the most celebrated acts of military courage in history. A specialist guide brings these extraordinary events to life with depth, nuance, and genuine storytelling power.
The afternoon brings a visit to the Talana Museum — one of South Africa’s finest regional museums, where exhibits illuminate the military, mining, and cultural history of this remarkable region.
Return to the lodge in the late afternoon for time to relax before dinner.

DAY 4 – Monday 15th March 2027 DUNDEE TO ZULULAND — FALAZA GAME PARK (B/L/D)
A morning drive through the picturesque rolling hills of Natal as the landscape shifts and the sounds of the city feel very far away. Welcome to Zululand — and your first real taste of sleeping in the African bush.
Check in to your own private raised luxury tent at Falaza Game Park & Spa, set within a lush indigenous forest near Hluhluwe. Each tent is equipped with a private balcony and ensuite — elevated above the forest floor, surrounded by the calls of birds and the rustling of the trees. This is Africa as it should be experienced.
This afternoon, embark on your first game drive in the private Falaza concession — scanning for resident wildlife as the afternoon light turns the bush gold. Return for a bush dinner beneath the African sky.

DAY 5 – Tuesday 16th March 2027 HLUHLUWE–iMFOLOZI — AFRICA’S OLDEST GAME RESERVE (B/L/D)
A full morning safari in one of Africa’s great wildlife reserves — and the spiritual home of rhino conservation worldwide.
Hluhluwe–iMfolozi Game Reserve is the oldest proclaimed game reserve in Africa, established in 1895, and the place where the white rhino was saved from extinction through decades of dedicated conservation work. Today it holds the world’s largest population of both black and white rhino — and it is also home to all members of the Big Five. A morning in this reserve is an extraordinary privilege.
Keep watch for elephants, lions, leopards, giraffes, zebras, impalas, and buffalo as your expert guide leads you deeper into the bush. The specialist rhino tracking experience is a genuine highlight — few encounters in African wildlife travel are more thrilling or more meaningful.
Return to Falaza for lunch and a relaxed afternoon before one final afternoon game drive through the private concession as the sun sets over Zululand.

DAY 6 – Wednesday 17th March 2027 ZULULAND TO THE KINGDOM OF ESWATINI (B/L/D)
Cross the border this morning into the Kingdom of Eswatini — one of the world’s last absolute monarchies and one of Africa’s most culturally rich and least-visited destinations. A landlocked mountain kingdom of extraordinary natural beauty, Eswatini offers a completely different face of southern Africa.
Travel to the beautiful Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary, nestled in the aptly named “Valley of Heaven.” Home to hippos, giraffes, zebras, warthogs, and a wonderful variety of antelope, Mlilwane is free from large predators — making it one of the rare places in Africa where you can truly explore the bush on foot. This afternoon, a guided nature walk brings the African bush to life at an unhurried, intimate pace — noticing the details that a vehicle safari simply cannot offer.
Your own room at Summerfields Resort & Botanical Garden, Eswatini or similar
DAY 7 – Thursday 18th March 2027 KINGDOM OF ESWATINI — CULTURAL IMMERSION & CONSERVATION (B/L/D)
One of the most unique and genuinely moving days of the entire tour — a deep dive into the living culture and conservation story of the Kingdom of Eswatini.
Begin with a visit to the Umphakatsi Chief’s homestead — an interactive cultural experience that goes far beyond the surface. Grind maize using traditional stone mills, plait mountain grass in the way Swazi women have done for generations, and join in traditional song and dance with members of the community. Share a traditional Swazi lunch eaten in the customary way — an experience of warmth, generosity, and genuine human connection that past travellers consistently remember as one of the tour’s most powerful moments.
This afternoon, visit the Roan Antelope Conservation Project — learning about the efforts to protect this magnificent and endangered antelope species in its southern African heartland.

DAY 8 – Friday 19th March 2027 ESWATINI TO GRASKOP — PANORAMA ROUTE GATEWAY (B/L/D)

After lunch, re-enter South Africa and travel through the lush, green Lowveld region toward Graskop — a charming mountain town perched on the edge of the escarpment and the gateway to one of the country’s most spectacular scenic routes. Arrive in time to relax before dinner at the characterful Graskop Hotel.

A morning of breathtaking scenery followed by an arrival at the most luxurious destination of the tour — a day of dramatic contrasts in the very best possible way.
Explore the legendary Panorama Route — one of South Africa’s most spectacular drives. Stand at the rim of the Blyde River Canyon — the third largest canyon on earth, carved through vivid red and orange cliffs, an extraordinary geological spectacle. Marvel at the bizarre swirling formations of Bourke’s Luck Potholes, carved by millennia of river action into the rock. Admire the iconic Three Rondavels — three cylindrical mountain peaks rising from the canyon floor. And stand at God’s Window — a viewpoint that earns its name completely, with views across the lowveld stretching to the horizon and beyond.
Continue to Karongwe Private Game Reserve — part of the Greater Kruger ecosystem — and settle into your private luxury tent at Chisomo Safari Camp, set amid towering trees overlooking the Makhutsi River. Celebrate your arrival with bush sundowners as the African sun sets over the reserve.

DAYS 10 & 11 – Sunday 21st & Monday 22nd March 2027 KARONGWE PRIVATE GAME RESERVE — LUXURY BIG FIVE SAFARI (B/L/D)
Two days of pure, unadulterated African safari luxury — and for many travellers, the undisputed highlight of the entire journey.
Twice-daily game drives with expert rangers take you deep into Karongwe’s magnificent private concession in pursuit of the Big Five — lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhino — on private land where the vehicles go where the animals go, and where no other operators have access. The quality of game viewing here is extraordinary.
Between drives, Chisomo Safari Camp wraps you in comfort and tranquillity: relax beside the pool on your private deck overlooking the bush, enjoy exceptional meals, and spend evenings in the lantern-lit riverside boma under a sky full of stars — the sounds of the African night all around you.
Optional additional experiences include hot air balloon flights over the reserve at dawn, helicopter scenic flights, guided bush walks, a photographic hide, and spa treatments — all available at additional cost and arrangeable through your guide.

DAY 12 – Tuesday 23rd March 2027 KARONGWE TO VICTORIA FALLS, ZIMBABWE — ZAMBEZI SUNSET CRUISE (B)
An early start for the road transfer to Nelspruit Airport, where your included flight carries you north to Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe — one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World and a destination that genuinely exceeds every expectation.
Upon arrival, transfer to your lodge and spend the afternoon at leisure — though the thundering roar of the Falls nearby makes it hard to stay still. This evening, reunite with your group for an unforgettable Zambezi River sunset cruise aboard a beautifully styled traditional dhow. As the boat glides upstream in the golden light, the distant thunder of the Falls, the calls of the birds, the sight of hippos and crocodiles in the reeds, and the colours of the African sunset combine into a moment of extraordinary, unhurried beauty.

DAY 13 – Wednesday 24th March 2027 VICTORIA FALLS — “THE SMOKE THAT THUNDERS” (B/L)
This is the experience that stops people in their tracks. Victoria Falls — known to the local Tonga people as Mosi-oa-Tunya, “The Smoke That Thunders” — is the world’s largest waterfall by combined width and height, and in March, at peak flow, it is a truly overwhelming natural force.
Thousands of litres of water per second cascade over a two-kilometre-wide cliff edge, falling over 100 metres into the Batoka Gorge below, creating a permanent plume of mist visible from 50 kilometres away. Scottish missionary David Livingstone, reportedly the first European to witness this sight in 1855, described it as “the most wonderful sight I had witnessed in Africa.” Nothing prepares you for standing here.
A guided tour of the Falls with your expert guide provides historical, geological, and cultural context, followed by lunch at The Lookout Café with spectacular views straight into the gorge below.
The afternoon is yours at leisure — perhaps a helicopter flight over the Falls (arrangeable locally, own expense), or a renowned high tea at the iconic Victoria Falls Hotel overlooking this natural wonder.
Your own room at Insika Lodge, Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe or similar
DAY 14 – Thursday 25th March 2027 VICTORIA FALLS TO CHOBE NATIONAL PARK, BOTSWANA (B/D)
A morning at leisure in Victoria Falls — time for final walks along the gorge, browsing the colourful local curio markets, or simply sitting with the sound of the Falls one last time.
Then cross the Zambezi River and enter Botswana — one of Africa’s great conservation success stories and home to the largest elephant population on earth. Transfer to Kasane and your riverside lodge overlooking the magnificent Chobe River — one of Africa’s greatest wildlife waterways.
Your own room at Cresta Mowana Safari Resort & Spa, Kasane or similar
DAY 15 – Friday 26th March 2027 CHOBE NATIONAL PARK — GAME DRIVE & RIVER CRUISE (B/D)
A dual-safari day in one of Africa’s most spectacular wildlife destinations — and for elephant lovers, an experience unlike anything else on the continent.
An early morning game drive into Chobe National Park offers exceptional wildlife viewing across diverse habitats — from flood plains to mopane woodland — with the park’s famous massive elephant herds as the headline attraction. Chobe is home to an estimated 130,000 elephants — the largest concentration anywhere on earth — and encountering these herds in the wild is a genuinely profound experience.
This afternoon, board a boat for a game-viewing river cruise on the Chobe River — watching elephants swim and wade across the river, hippos surface and submerge at close range, crocodiles bask on the banks, and an extraordinary variety of birdlife fills the skies as the African sun sets over Botswana. It’s an afternoon that stays with you forever.
Your own room at Cresta Mowana Safari Resort & Spa, Kasane or similar
DAY 16 – Saturday 27th March 2027 KASANE TO CAPE TOWN — V&A WATERFRONT ARRIVAL (B)
A final relaxed morning in Chobe before transferring to Kasane Airport for your included flight to Cape Town via Johannesburg. Arrive in one of the world’s most beautiful and celebrated cities, met and transferred to your hotel in the iconic V&A Waterfront precinct — with Table Mountain rising dramatically behind the city and the Atlantic Ocean glittering before it. The remainder of the day is yours to begin exploring at your own pace.
Your own room at Commodore Hotel, V&A Waterfront, Cape Town or similar
DAY 17 – Sunday 28th March 2027 CAPE PENINSULA TOUR — CAPE POINT & BOULDERS BEACH PENGUINS (B)
A day of spectacular coastal scenery along one of the world’s great scenic drives. Travel along Cape Town’s stunning Atlantic Seaboard through the glamorous suburbs of Sea Point, Clifton, and Camps Bay — some of the most photographed coastline in the southern hemisphere — pausing at Maiden’s Cove for sweeping panoramic views.
Continue along the legendary Chapman’s Peak Drive — a cliff-hugging road carved into the sheer mountain face above the Atlantic Ocean — before arriving at Cape Point and the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve: the dramatic southwestern tip of the African continent, where two oceans meet and the landscapes are wild and elemental.
The afternoon brings one of Cape Town’s most charming and unexpected encounters: the penguin colony at Boulders Beach, Simon’s Town — where hundreds of endangered African penguins have made their home in the coastal dunes, and where you can walk among them on boardwalked pathways at remarkably close range.
Your own room at Commodore Hotel, V&A Waterfront, Cape Town or similar
DAY 18 – Monday 29th March 2027 CAPE WINELANDS — PAARL, FRANSCHHOEK & STELLENBOSCH & FAREWELL DINNER (B/D)
A glorious final full day in South Africa — and a fitting farewell to the country’s extraordinary variety. The Cape Winelands in March are at their golden harvest best: vineyards heavy with fruit, the mountain light soft and rich, the air fragrant with the scents of ripening grapes and fynbos.
Tour three of South Africa’s most celebrated wine regions — Paarl, with its dramatic granite boulder formations and the moving Taal Monument; Franschhoek — the “French Corner” — settled by French Huguenot refugees in the 17th century, whose descendants gave this valley its extraordinary food and wine culture; and Stellenbosch — arguably South Africa’s most beautiful wine town, its oak-lined streets framed by Cape Dutch architecture and mountain backdrops.
Return to Cape Town in the mid-afternoon before gathering this evening for your Farewell Dinner at Marco’s African Place — one of Cape Town’s most celebrated venues for traditional African hospitality. Live music, traditional dancing, extraordinary food, and the warmth of 19 days shared together make this an evening to remember.
Your own room at Commodore Hotel, V&A Waterfront, Cape Town or similar
DAY 19 – Tuesday 30th March 2027 CAPE TOWN — DEPARTURE DAY (B)
After a final breakfast together at the V&A Waterfront, your Grand African Sojourn draws to a close. Transfer to Cape Town International Airport for your onward journey — carrying with you the Big Five, the thunder of Victoria Falls, the vast elephant herds of Chobe, the lantern-lit boma at Chisomo, the Swazi chief’s homestead, the penguins of Boulders Beach, and the golden light of the Cape Winelands.
This is not goodbye. This is until next time.

General
A journey through South Africa, Victoria Falls and Botswana offers an unforgettable mix of dramatic landscapes, world-class wildlife, vibrant cultures, and fascinating history. From cosmopolitan cities and vineyard regions to Big Five safaris and one of the world’s greatest natural wonders, this region combines luxury, adventure, and natural beauty in equal measure. Travellers can expect breathtaking scenery, warm hospitality, excellent food and wine, and some of the best wildlife viewing opportunities on earth.
Weather
Southern Africa generally enjoys a mild and sunny climate, although conditions vary depending on the region and time of year. South Africa’s seasons are opposite to those in the Northern Hemisphere, with summer running from November to March and winter from May to August. Safari areas in Botswana and around Victoria Falls are typically warm to hot during the day, with cooler mornings and evenings, particularly during winter months. The dry season (May to October) is considered one of the best times for wildlife viewing, while the wetter summer months bring lush green landscapes and dramatic skies.
Visas
No visa is currently required for South Africa or Botswana for Australian and New Zealand passport holders travelling for tourism purposes. A visa for Victoria Falls (Zimbabwe side) is available on arrival and currently costs approximately USD $30 per person, payable locally. Visa requirements and entry regulations are subject to change, so travellers should check the latest official travel advice prior to departure.
Currency
South Africa uses the South African Rand (ZAR), Botswana uses the Botswana Pula (BWP), and Victoria Falls commonly accepts both the US Dollar (USD) and local currencies depending on whether staying in Zimbabwe or Zambia. Credit cards are widely accepted in cities, hotels, restaurants, and larger lodges, although it is useful to carry some cash for small purchases, tips, or rural areas. ATMs are available in most major centres, though access can be more limited in remote safari regions.
Electricity
South Africa primarily uses Type M plugs with a 230V supply, while Botswana and Zimbabwe commonly use Type D, G, or M plugs depending on the property or region. A universal travel adaptor is highly recommended for travel throughout southern Africa. Electricity supplies in safari areas and remote lodges can occasionally be interrupted, although most quality lodges have generators or backup systems in place.

March is one of the finest months to experience this journey: Victoria Falls is at thundering peak flow, the landscapes are lush and green, birdlife is at its annual peak, and the Big Five are active and accessible across every reserve.

This evening, glide upstream on a Zambezi River sunset cruise aboard a bohemian dhow as the sky turns gold and the sound of the falls echoes across the water. Pure magic.

DAY 16 – Saturday 27th March 2027 KASANE TO CAPE TOWN — V&A WATERFRONT ARRIVAL (B)

The remainder of the day is yours to begin exploring at your own pace.
