Morocco has a way of getting under your skin from the moment you arrive. The call to prayer echoing across ancient rooftops. The scent of cumin and cedarwood drifting from a souk. The impossibly golden light falling on a Saharan dune at sunset. The warmth of a family welcoming you into their home for dinner. This is a country of extraordinary sensory richness — and it reveals itself most generously to those who arrive with an open heart and the right company.
Two’s a Crowd’s Morocco tour is crafted exclusively for solo travellers — a 13-day immersion through the Imperial Cities, the Atlas Mountains, the Sahara Desert, and the Atlantic Coast, with a maximum of just 15 guests, your own private room throughout, and a dedicated Two’s a Crowd Host and expert local guide with you every step of the way.
April is Morocco at its very finest — crisp mountain air, golden desert light, medinas alive with spring colour, and temperatures that are perfect for exploring on foot.
Morocco is one of those destinations that solo travellers consistently dream about — and consistently find daunting to navigate alone. The medinas can feel overwhelming, the logistics of crossing between desert, mountain, and coast are complex, and as a solo traveller the experience of arriving in a foreign country where you don’t speak the language can feel isolating.
This tour removes every one of those barriers while keeping every moment of magic intact. Past travellers consistently highlight the guide — “Mohammed was caring, funny and knew everything there was about Morocco” — and the small group dynamic: “We all got on with each other.” Read the reviews below and see why this tour sells itself.
Casablanca — Gateway to Morocco Your Moroccan adventure begins in the cosmopolitan city that gave the world its most romantic cinematic name. Settle in and celebrate your arrival over a Welcome Dinner in a traditional restaurant — your first taste of Morocco’s extraordinary food culture, with classic dishes of tagine, couscous, and the celebrated pastilla.
Hassan II Mosque — The World’s Tallest Minaret A guided tour of one of the most ambitious architectural achievements of the modern Islamic world. The Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca accommodates 25,000 worshippers and features a 200-metre minaret — the tallest in the world — and is one of the very few mosques in Morocco open to non-Muslim visitors. A genuinely awe-inspiring experience.
Rabat — Morocco’s Elegant Royal Capital The political capital of Morocco and one of its most underrated cities. A guided tour takes in the ancient Chellah — a remarkable walled necropolis built over a Roman settlement — and the atmospheric Kasbah des Oudaïas, perched high above the Atlantic Ocean. A city of wide boulevards, ornate Arab monuments, and a medina far less overwhelming than Fes or Marrakech — and all the more enjoyable for it.
Meknes & Volubilis — Imperial Grandeur & Roman Ruins The imperial city of Meknes offers a fascinating glimpse into the ambitions of 17th-century Sultan Moulay Ismail, who transformed a provincial town into a spectacular royal capital. Visit the immense Heri es Souani Granary — a mammoth feat of ancient engineering — before continuing to the extraordinary UNESCO World Heritage Site of Volubilis: the best-preserved Roman ruins in Morocco, with remarkable intact mosaics lining the ancient Decumanus Maximus. A site that genuinely surprises people with its scale and beauty.
Fes el Bali — The World’s Greatest Medieval Medina The undisputed cultural and spiritual heart of Morocco, and one of the most extraordinary urban environments on earth. The UNESCO-listed Fes el Bali is the world’s largest car-free urban space — a labyrinthine medieval city of 9,000 alleyways, ancient madrassas, legendary mosques, fragrant souks, and the famous tanneries where leather has been dyed in the same stone vats using the same techniques for a thousand years. A full day with your expert local guide barely scratches the surface.
The evening brings the tour’s most unique and intimate experience: a private pastilla dinner in a local family’s home-turned-restaurant — an after-hours gathering where you’ll learn to make Morocco’s most celebrated dish (sweet, savoury, layered pastry filled with meat, eggs, caramelised onions, and sugared almonds) and share stories about life in Fes with your genuinely warm and welcoming hosts. An experience that past travellers consistently remember as one of their favourites.
Middle Atlas Mountains & Midelt Leave the medina intensity behind and ascend into the dramatic scenery of the Middle Atlas — fertile valleys, dense cedar forests, barren rocky plateaus, and the market town of Midelt, nestled between the Atlas and Anti-Atlas mountains at 1,500 metres. An afternoon hike through the hills with views of snow-capped peaks, wandering through apple tree plantations in the crisp mountain air. A deeply peaceful interlude before the desert.
Erg Chebbi — Sahara Desert Luxury Camp The bucket-list moment. The towering orange dunes of Erg Chebbi near Merzouga rise up to 150 metres from the desert floor — some of the most dramatic and photogenic landscapes on earth, and completely unlike anywhere else in Morocco. A 4WD transfer takes you deep into the dunes to your luxury desert camp, hidden away from the world in a sea of shifting sand.
Your private tent features a proper bed, en suite bathroom, and authentic Moroccan décor — this is glamping in the most beautiful sense. Tonight, dine on a traditional Moroccan feast beneath a sky jewelled with more stars than you have ever seen, followed by live Gnaoua music around an open fire. A night that stays with you for the rest of your life.
Sunrise Camel Trek & Todra Gorge Wake before dawn for a sunrise camel ride back through the dunes — one of those Lawrence of Arabia moments that solo travellers dream about. Then continue to the breathtaking Todra Gorge — a dramatic natural cathedral of limestone cliffs rising over 250 metres on either side of a narrow canyon. A short walk through the gorge is a genuinely humbling experience.
Dades Valley & Ouarzazate — Hollywood of Africa The Dades Valley offers a night surrounded by extraordinary landscapes — sprawling green valleys and wind-sculpted rock formations that seem to belong on another planet. Continue to Ouarzazate — nicknamed the “Gateway to the Desert” and the filming location for Lawrence of Arabia, Gladiator, The Sheltering Sky, and Game of Thrones. The optional Atlas Movie Studios tour is a fascinating detour for film lovers.
Aït Benhaddou — UNESCO Kasbah & Women’s Teahouse One of Morocco’s most iconic and photogenic sites — the ancient fortified village of Aït Benhaddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site of extraordinary mud-brick architecture, set dramatically above a river crossing on the ancient caravan route to Marrakech. After a guided walk through the ksar, visit Tawesna — a community-run teahouse where local women prepare traditional mint tea and Moroccan pastries using natural ingredients from local cooperatives, sharing their stories of Amazigh life with warmth and pride. A genuinely meaningful encounter.
Marrakech — The Red City Morocco’s most famous city needs no introduction — but it still manages to exceed expectations. Two full days in the electric Pink City: explore the magnificent Bahia Palace, admire the iconic Koutoubia Mosque (whose minaret became the template for La Giralda in Seville), and lose yourself in the labyrinthine souks of the old medina. As evening falls, the great square of Jemaa el-Fnaa transforms into the greatest free show on earth — storytellers, henna painters, musicians, and a street food bazaar of staggering variety. The optional Majorelle Garden — the cobalt-blue botanical masterpiece designed by French painter Jacques Majorelle and later restored by Yves Saint Laurent — is one of the most beautiful gardens in the world.
Essaouira — Bride of the Atlantic The perfect final chapter. The fortified coastal town of Essaouira has been seducing artists, musicians, and free spirits for centuries — Orson Welles filmed Othello here, and Jimi Hendrix famously spent time in the town in the 1960s. Its medina brushes right up against the Atlantic Ocean, its narrow whitewashed streets are car-free and endlessly wanderable, and its fishing port is one of the most atmospheric in North Africa. Stay in the beautifully restored Palais des Remparts riad, with its sweeping ocean views, and let the sea breeze and the easy pace of this extraordinary town wash the last of the medina intensity away.
Morocco is waiting — and so are your fellow solo travellers.

DAY 1 – Monday 12th April 2027 CASABLANCA — ARRIVAL & WELCOME DINNER (D)
Salaam Aleikum! Welcome to Morocco — a country that begins working its magic the moment you step off the plane. Upon arrival at Mohammed V International Airport, you will be met and transferred to your hotel in the heart of Casablanca.
If you arrive with time to spare before this evening’s gathering, the art deco Villa des Arts is a wonderful way to spend an hour — a gorgeous 1930s gallery housing exhibitions of contemporary Moroccan and international art. Alternatively, the fascinating Jewish Museum (MAD40) offers a unique and moving window into a little-known chapter of Moroccan history.
This evening, meet your Two’s a Crowd Host, local guide, and fellow solo travellers at a Welcome Meeting at 6:00pm (confirm time and location with hotel reception), followed by a Welcome Dinner in a traditional Moroccan restaurant — your first encounter with the extraordinary flavours of Moroccan cuisine: rich tagines slow-cooked with preserved lemon and olives, fragrant couscous, and the celebrated pastilla.
Your own room at Idou Anfa Hotel & Spa, Casablanca or similar
DAY 2 – Tuesday 13th April 2027 CASABLANCA — HASSAN II MOSQUE — RABAT (B)
After breakfast, begin the day with a 45-minute guided tour of the Hassan II Mosque — one of the most extraordinary buildings in the Islamic world and the late King Hassan II’s most ambitious legacy to his city. Its 200-metre minaret is the tallest in the world, and the mosque’s capacity of 25,000 worshippers is matched by an interior of breathtaking craftsmanship in marble, cedarwood, and hand-laid zellige tilework. One of the very few mosques in Morocco open to non-Muslim visitors — and an unforgettable experience.
Continue an hour’s drive north to Rabat — Morocco’s elegant royal capital, and one of the country’s most rewarding and underrated cities. A guided tour explores the ancient Chellah — a walled medieval complex built over Roman ruins, now a hauntingly beautiful garden of storks and medieval tombs — and the magnificent Kasbah des Oudaïas, an ancient fortified quarter perched dramatically above the meeting of the Bou Regreg River and the Atlantic Ocean, with sweeping views across to the sister city of Salé.
Your own room at Imperial Boutique Hotel, Rabat or similar
DAY 3 – Wednesday 14th April 2027 MEKNES — VOLUBILIS — FES (B/L)
A rich day of imperial history and Roman archaeology as the journey heads inland.
Begin in Meknes — one of Morocco’s four Imperial Cities and the most undervisited of them all. In the 17th century, Sultan Moulay Ismail transformed this modest town into a spectacular royal capital of grand boulevards, monumental gates, and palaces that rivalled Versailles. Visit the immense Heri es Souani Granary — a remarkable feat of ancient engineering with walls three metres thick designed to keep grain cool — and the crumbling grandeur of the imperial palace complex. Stop for lunch at a local medina restaurant and try a camel burger — a Meknes speciality and a memorable culinary moment.
Continue through rolling hills and silver olive groves to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Volubilis — the best-preserved Roman ruins in Morocco, and one of the most impressive archaeological sites in all of North Africa. A guided tour with your local expert reveals extraordinary intact Roman mosaics lining the ancient Decumanus Maximus, their colours still vivid after nearly two millennia. Pack water, sun protection, and your camera.
Continue to Fes — the spiritual and cultural capital of Morocco — where you’ll spend the next two nights.
Your own room at Across Hotel, Fes or similar
DAY 4 – Thursday 15th April 2027 FES EL BALI — MEDINA, TANNERIES & PRIVATE PASTILLA DINNER (B/D)
A full and extraordinary day in one of the most remarkable cities on earth.
Fes el Bali — the ancient walled city — is the world’s largest car-free urban space and a UNESCO World Heritage Site of incomparable depth and complexity. More than 9,000 alleyways wind through a medieval city that has changed remarkably little in a thousand years. Donkeys still carry goods through lanes too narrow for vehicles. Artisans still work in the same specialist sections of the souk their families have occupied for generations. The air still carries the scent of spice, fresh bread, and the tannery dyes that have coloured Moroccan leather since the 11th century.
Your expert local guide leads you through this extraordinary labyrinth, visiting the exquisitely decorated Al-Attarine Madrasa — its tilework and carved plasterwork a masterpiece of medieval Islamic art — the Chouara Tanneries, viewed from the terraces of nearby leather shops with their famous pots of natural dye, and the magnificent Funduq al-Najjarin — a beautifully restored 18th-century merchants’ inn.
This evening brings the tour’s most intimate and unique experience: a private pastilla dinner at a local family’s home-turned-restaurant — an after-hours gathering accessible to no ordinary tourist. You’ll learn to prepare Morocco’s most celebrated dish — layered pastry filled with pigeon or chicken, eggs, caramelised onions, lemon, and sugared almonds — while chatting with your warm and generous hosts about daily life in Fes. An experience that consistently ranks as one of the tour’s most treasured memories.
Your own room at Across Hotel, Fes or similar
DAY 5 – Friday 16th April 2027 FES TO MIDELT — ATLAS MOUNTAINS (B/D)
Leave the sensory intensity of the medina behind and begin the long, beautiful drive south into the Middle Atlas Mountains — a landscape of fertile valleys, dense cedar forests inhabited by free-roaming Barbary macaques, barren rocky plateaus, and the blue-sky silence of the high country.
Arrive in Midelt — a Berber market town nestled between the Atlas and Anti-Atlas ranges at over 1,500 metres above sea level. The air here is clean and cool, a world away from the heat and bustle of the imperial cities. After lunch, set out for an easy afternoon hike through the surrounding hills, with astonishing views of snow-capped peaks stretching to the horizon. Wind your way back through plantations of apple trees before returning to your accommodation for a relaxed evening.
Your own room at Meteorite Boulaajoul, Midelt or similar
DAY 6 – Saturday 17th April 2027 MERZOUGA — SAHARA DESERT LUXURY CAMP (B/D)
The day the whole group has been looking forward to. Drive through a constantly shifting landscape — barren mountainsides giving way to fertile palm valleys, oasis towns, and finally the vast, empty horizon of the pre-Saharan south — before the unmistakable sight of the Erg Chebbi dunes appears on the horizon, their orange flanks glowing against a deep blue sky.
The charming Saharan village of Merzouga sits at the base of these extraordinary dunes — among the most beautiful and photogenic landscapes in all of Morocco, with towering dunes reaching up to 150 metres. It feels wonderfully like the edge of the world.
A 4WD transfer carries you deep into the dunes to your hidden luxury desert camp, where your own private tent awaits — proper bed, en suite bathroom, and authentic Moroccan décor. As the sun drops and the dunes turn from orange to rose to deep purple, gather with your group for a traditional Moroccan feast beneath the most spectacular night sky you have ever seen, followed by live Gnaoua music around an open fire — the ancient rhythmic music of Morocco’s desert communities, whose hypnotic sound seems to belong entirely to this landscape.
Your own private luxury tent at Golden Camp, Erg Chebbi or similar
DAY 7 – Sunday 18th April 2027 SUNRISE CAMEL TREK — TODRA GORGE — DADES VALLEY (B/D)
Wake before dawn for one of the tour’s most magical experiences: a sunrise camel trek across the Erg Chebbi dunes as the sky shifts from deep violet to gold, and the vast Saharan silence is broken only by the soft pad of camel feet on sand. This is the Lawrence of Arabia moment that solo travellers dream about — and it delivers completely.
After breakfast, begin the drive toward one of Morocco’s most dramatic natural spectacles: the Todra Gorge — a narrow canyon carved through sheer limestone cliffs rising over 250 metres on either side, with a cold clear river running through its base. The scale is extraordinary and the light is remarkable, particularly in the morning hours. A short walk through the gorge offers the full impact of this geological wonder.
Continue to the beautiful Dades Valley — a wide, lush river valley of green gardens and palm groves against a backdrop of extraordinary wind-sculpted rock formations, sometimes called the Valley of the Roses for its springtime carpet of Damask roses.
Your own room at Riad Rihana, Dades Valley or similar
DAY 8 – Monday 19th April 2027 DADES VALLEY TO OUARZAZATE — GATEWAY TO THE DESERT (B)
Drive west through the stunning landscapes of the southern Moroccan pre-Sahara — past ancient kasbah ruins, palm-filled valleys, former colonial military outposts, and the towering mud-brick fortresses that line the so-called Route of the Kasbahs — toward Ouarzazate.
Nicknamed the “Gateway to the Desert,” Ouarzazate is Morocco’s answer to Hollywood — a city so photogenic and atmospherically lit that it has served as a backdrop for some of cinema’s most famous productions: Lawrence of Arabia, Gladiator, The Sheltering Sky, Kingdom of Heaven, and multiple series of Game of Thrones. Visit the optional Atlas Movie Studios (MAD80) — one of the largest film studios in the world — or explore the historic Kasbah Taourirt (MAD20) at your own pace.
Your own room at Hotel Oscar, Ouarzazate or similar
DAY 9 – Tuesday 20th April 2027 AÏT BENHADDOU — ATLAS MOUNTAIN PASSES — MARRAKECH (B)
A spectacular day of driving, discovery, and arrival in Morocco’s most famous city.
Begin at Aït Benhaddou — a UNESCO World Heritage Site of extraordinary mud-brick kasbahs rising in tiers above the Ounila River, and one of the best-preserved examples of southern Moroccan earthen clay architecture in existence. This ancient fortified village was a vital stop on the trans-Saharan caravan route, and it is instantly recognisable as a filming location for Game of Thrones, Gladiator, and many others. A guided ksar walk through its winding streets and to the summit viewpoint is genuinely impressive.
After the walk, visit Tawesna — a beautifully run community teahouse on the river bank, operated by local Amazigh women who prepare traditional mint tea and Moroccan pastries using natural ingredients sourced from local cooperatives. The women share their stories with genuine warmth and pride. A simple, meaningful, and delicious stop.
Continue through the dramatic Tizi n’Tichka pass — the highest paved mountain pass in North Africa at over 2,260 metres — with sweeping panoramic views in all directions and multiple photo stops along the way. Arrive in Marrakech in the early evening and check into your hotel before heading to the legendary Jemaa el-Fnaa square — which transforms after dark into one of the world’s greatest public spectacles: storytellers, musicians, henna artists, acrobats, and a street food bazaar of overwhelming variety.
Your own room at Hotel Grand Plaza, Marrakech or similar
DAY 10 – Wednesday 21st April 2027 MARRAKECH — MEDINA, BAHIA PALACE & KOUTOUBIA MOSQUE (B)
A morning deep in the living heart of the Pink City’s ancient medina — guided, which makes all the difference in a city this complex and captivating.
Begin at the magnificent Bahia Palace — built in 1866 by a former slave who rose to become Grand Vizier of Morocco. Its 150 rooms and eight hectares of pavilions, courtyards, and gardens are a masterpiece of Moroccan craftsmanship, with intricate painted ceilings, carved plasterwork, and zellige tilework throughout. Continue to the iconic Koutoubia Mosque — the largest mosque in Marrakech, whose 70-metre minaret became the architectural template for the Giralda in Seville and the Hassan Tower in Rabat. Then plunge back into the souks — the busiest, most colourful, and most intoxicating markets in Morocco, where each neighbourhood specialises in a different craft: lanterns, leather, spices, textiles, ceramics.
The afternoon is entirely your own. The optional Majorelle Garden (MAD150) — the cobalt-blue botanical masterpiece created by French painter Jacques Majorelle and later saved from demolition by Yves Saint Laurent — is one of the most beautiful gardens in the world and utterly worth the entrance fee. Or simply return to the medina, find a rooftop café, and watch the city unfold below you.
Your own room at Hotel Grand Plaza, Marrakech or similar
DAY 11 – Thursday 22nd April 2027 ESSAOUIRA — BRIDE OF THE ATLANTIC (B)
Drive west to the Atlantic coast and the ancient walled city of Essaouira — one of the most captivating and characterful towns in all of North Africa, and a perfect counterpoint to the heat and intensity of Marrakech.
Built by the Portuguese in the 16th century and later developed under the French, Essaouira has attracted artists, musicians, and free spirits for generations. Orson Welles filmed Othello here. Jimi Hendrix famously spent time in the town in the late 1960s. Its car-free medina of whitewashed houses and sandstone ramparts brushes right up against the Atlantic Ocean, its narrow streets alive with the sound of woodcarvers, the smell of fresh fish, and the cries of seabirds riding the ocean wind.
A guided walking tour explores the UNESCO-listed medina, the ancient Jewish mellah, the atmospheric fishing port where the daily catch is auctioned in colourful chaos, and the dramatic skala (sea wall) — where the ocean crashes against centuries-old Portuguese ramparts. The afternoon is yours to explore at your own pace — browse the extraordinary craft workshops, walk the wild Atlantic beach, or find a terrace with a view of the sunset over the ocean.
Stay in the beautifully restored Palais des Remparts riad — one of the finest traditional Moroccan guesthouses on the coast, with sweeping sea views and a sense of calm that makes it likely to be one of the most memorable accommodations of the entire journey.
Your own room at Palais des Remparts, Essaouira or similar
DAY 12 – Friday 23rd April 2027 ESSAOUIRA TO CASABLANCA — FAREWELL DINNER (B/D)
A final morning in Essaouira — time to walk the beach one last time, wander the medina’s quieter morning lanes, or browse the extraordinary woodcarving workshops for which the town is famous, producing exquisite objects from the fragrant local thuya wood.
Then board your private vehicle for the drive back to Casablanca, where the journey began 12 days ago. Tonight, gather for a Farewell Dinner at a Moroccan restaurant — a celebration of everything shared: the dunes, the medinas, the mountain passes, the family dinner in Fes, the camel at sunrise, the rooftop teas, and the friendships formed over 13 extraordinary days.
Your own room at Idou Anfa Hotel, Casablanca or similar
DAY 13 – Saturday 24th April 2027 CASABLANCA — DEPARTURE DAY (B)
After one final breakfast together, bid farewell to your fellow travellers and the remarkable journey you’ve shared. A complimentary transfer to Mohammed V International Airport will be arranged to suit your onward flight.
Take with you the colours of the Fes tanneries, the silence of the Sahara, the chaos of Jemaa el-Fnaa, the warmth of your hosts’ home in Fes, the sound of Gnaoua music under the stars — and the certainty that Morocco has found a permanent place in your heart.
Yallah! Until next time.

Weather
Morocco’s coastal regions enjoy a pleasant Mediterranean climate year-round. Inland areas are hotter and drier, with a more continental climate. From October to April, daytime temperatures in the lowlands average around 30°C, dropping to 15°C at night. Southern desert areas are extremely hot and dry most of the time, but nights can be surprisingly cold. In the mountains, summers are cool to cold, and snowfall typically occurs between December and March.
Currency
The official currency is the Moroccan dirham (dh), divided into 100 centimes (c). Centimes are still used in local markets more often than dirhams.
Coins: 10c, 20c, 50c, 1dh, 5dh, 10dh
Banknotes: 10dh, 20dh, 50dh, 100dh, 200dh
Foreign exchange offices are usually available in Morocco’s airports and seaports. Traveller’s cheques are generally not practical — they’re only accepted at banks and are rarely used. Major hotels accept credit cards, and ATMs are widely available in cities and towns.
Electricity
Morocco operates on 220 volts with two round-pin sockets (Type C or E). Bring a suitable adapter if you’re travelling with devices from countries using other plug types (like Australia, NZ, or the UK).
Visas
IMPORTANT: Visa and entry requirements can change at short notice. Check with the appropriate embassy or official visa service before travelling.
Currently, citizens of Australia, New Zealand, the United States, and Canada do not require a visa for tourist stays of up to 90 days. A passport valid for at least 6 months beyond your arrival date is required.
On arrival, travellers must complete an entry form detailing personal information, travel purpose, and occupation. Tip: If you’re a journalist, consider using an alternative job title, as Moroccan authorities have occasionally restricted entry to individuals listing that profession.
