Morocco is a masterpiece of contrasts – a place where ancient heritage meets a pulse of modern energy, and every horizon tells a different story. Step into a land of timeless rhythm and striking contrasts on this immersive 13-day journey through Morocco – where ancient traditions and vibrant modern life exist side by side.

In April you’ll experience Morocco at its most enchanting: crisp mountain air, golden desert sands, and medinas alive with the scent of spice, cedarwood and possibility.

With a maximum of just 15 guests, you’ll travel in a small, like-minded group, with the comfort of your own guaranteed solo room throughout. Supported by expert local guides and your dedicated Two’s a Crowd Tour Host, allowing you to simply relax and enjoy the experience.

Your journey begins in cosmopolitan Casablanca before travelling to the elegant capital of Rabat. From here, step back through centuries at the Roman ruins of Volubilis, before arriving in Fes — the cultural and spiritual heart of Morocco. Within its UNESCO-listed medina, you’ll discover a world that feels untouched by time, where artisans, tanneries, and ancient alleyways create an unforgettable sensory experience.

As the landscape shifts, journey through the Middle Atlas Mountains, past cedar forests and traditional Berber villages, before reaching the vast Sahara. Here, a truly unforgettable experience awaits — a stay in a luxury desert camp set amongst the sweeping dunes of Erg Chebbi. As the sun sets, ride by camel across the sands before settling in for a magical evening of traditional cuisine, music, and starlit skies.

Continue through the dramatic Todra Gorge and past cinematic kasbahs en route to Marrakech — a city bursting with energy, colour, and intrigue. Wander its vibrant souks, admire its architectural beauty, and experience the electric atmosphere of Jemaa el-Fnaa.

Your journey finds its final rhythm in the coastal charm of Essaouira, where ocean breezes and whitewashed streets offer a gentle contrast to the inland intensity, before returning to Casablanca for a memorable farewell.

This is Morocco the Two’s a Crowd way — immersive, enriching, and unforgettable.

RABAT (B)

After breakfast today, Casablanca beckons. Take a 45-minute guided tour of the Hassan II Mosque. Completed in 1993, this extraordinary monument was the late king’s most ambitious project and his legacy to the city. Its 200-meter-high minaret is the tallest in the world. Hassan II Mosque can accommodate 25,000 worshippers and is one of the only religious sites open to non-Muslims. Next, take an hour drive to Rabat. Rabat’s history is long and colorful, having been host to Roman settlements, pirates and more recently the Moroccan parliament. It contains numerous fine Arab monuments, some dating from the 10th to 15th century Almohad and Merenid dynasties, and others that are far older. The earliest known settlement is Sala, occupying an area now known as the Chellah. Store your luggage and spend a few hours strolling through the city’s old quarter, then walk up to Kasbah des Oudaias and enjoy views over the Atlantic Ocean. Afterwards head to your hotel to spend the night in Rabat.

Day 3 – Wednesday 14th April 2027
MEKNES – VOLUBILIS – FES (B,L)

This morning head to Meknes (approximately 2 hours), the sixth largest city in the kingdom, and former capital of Morocco. In the 17th century Sultan Moulay Ismail turned Meknes from a provincial town to a spectacular Imperial city – visit his immense Heri es Souani Granary, a mammoth architectural feat, and the city’s now crumbling imperial palaces. Try a camel burger for lunch at a friendly local restaurant in the medina.

Later, board a private minibus and travel for one hour through rolling hills and olive groves to the archaeological site of Volubilis. World Heritage-listed Volubilis was once a provincial Roman capital, a distant outpost of the empire, and the remains make an undeniably impressive sight. Upon arrival, take a tour around the ruins with a local guide. Please remember to pack drinking water, a hat, sunglasses, and sun cream for this tour as it may get hot, and you will be exposed to the sun. And, of course, don’t forget to take your camera as the town is filled with fantastic mosaics along the Decumanus Maximus, many of which remain intact. Afterwards, make the two-hour drive to Fes, where you’ll spend the next two nights. Fes is the spiritual and cultural heart of Morocco; vibrant, noisy, fascinating, and overwhelming – a visual and pungent feast for the senses – with a huge, well-preserved medieval old city that’s the mother of all medinas.

Day 4 – Thursday 15th April 2027
FES (B,D)

Today head into the Old Town, known locally as Fes el Bali. Medieval Fes was one of the world’s great centres of education and culture, both Islamic and Jewish. Its religious institutions and libraries are legendary, and its mosques are of great renown. Your leader will share stories of the city’s history as you walk through the twisting streets and alleyways, passing donkeys piled high with goods, and exploring the specialty sections that divide the souk. Filled with historic khans, medresses and dye-pits, stalls loaded with fruits, herbs and soups, and where the squawk of chickens, smell of spice and sound of hammering of copper fills the air. Spend the day exploring the old city, visiting Al-Attarine Madrasa, the tanneries and the splendid Funduk Nejjarine – a beautifully restored 18th century inn.

This evening, you’ll have the unique opportunity to see a different side of Moroccan life as you are warmly welcomed into the home-turned-restaurant of a local family for a pastilla dinner in a private after-hours experience. One of the country’s most celebrated dishes, this sweet and savory delight is made with layered pastry and meat, cooked with eggs, caramelized onions, lemon and sugared almonds. Learn how the iconic Moroccan pie is made as you chat with your friendly hosts about life in Fes, then end the night with a traditional sweet treat.

Included Activities

  • Fes – Medina walking tour
  • Fes – Funduq al-Najjarin
  • Fes – Medersa El Attarine
  • Fes – Home-cooked Pastilla Dinnere

Day 5 – Friday 16th April 2027
MIDELT (B,D)

Today, leave the intensity of the city behind for the simplicity of the High Atlas Mountains. Drive south, inland through a variety of spectacular scenery – fertile valleys, cedar and pine forests and barren, rocky landscapes – to the small town of Midelt (approximately 3.5 hours). Midelt is a market town, originally built as a base for mining in the area and is nestled between the Atlas and Anti-Atlas Mountains at an elevation of just over 1,500 meters. It’s a perfect spot to break up the journey to the Sahara and is a great base for some easy walks. Many of the locals are Berber, and the town can offer an insight into their way of life. After lunch, stretch your legs for a few hours on an easy hike in the nearby hills. Be prepared for some astonishing views of the Atlas Mountains, with snowy peaks almost touching the sky. Wander through plantations of apple trees on the way back to your accommodation for a relaxing evening.

Your own room at ‘Meteorite Boulaajoul’ or similar

Day 6 – Saturday 17th April 2027
MERZOUGA DESERT (B,D)

This morning drive through changing scenery, from barren mountainsides to fertile valleys, on the journey to Merzouga. With a backdrop of the orange-coloured Erg Chebbi sand dunes, the charming Saharan village of Merzouga feels wonderfully isolated, like the modern world has left it behind.

The Erg Chebbi dunes are the most stunning in the country and an essential part of any visit to Morocco. An erg is a vast sea of shifting wind-swept sand that’s formed into picturesque, undulating crests and valleys. The Erg Chebbi is one of the world’s iconic landscapes, with towering dunes up to 150 metres in height. Located at the end of a sealed road and just 20 kilometres from the Algerian border this really feels like frontier country. Then it’s time to jump on a 4*4 ride through the desert towards your Feature Stay accommodation – a spectacular camp hidden away in the sand dunes of the Sahara. Here in this magical escape from the modern world, you’ll experience the true essence of desert life. The remote location doesn’t mean skimping on amenities – permanent tents feature large beds, en suite bathrooms, and delightful, authentic décor. Tonight, embrace your extraordinary surroundings and enjoy a traditional feast beneath a sky jewelled with thousands of stars, followed by live Gnaoua music around an open fire.

Included Activities

  • Sahara Desert – 4*4 to access the camp.

Special information

You’ll stay in comfortable tents with proper beds, seating, and private shower and toilet facilities, along with a shared dining tent. Blankets and mattresses are provided. The camp has up to 20 tents, so while your tent is private, other guests may be staying on site.

Day 7 – Sunday 18th April 2027
TODRA GORGE – DADES VALLEY (B,D)

Enjoy a real Lawrence of Arabia moment this morning with a sunrise camel ride across the desert on the return journey to the auberge. Then drive to Todra Gorge (approximately 4.5 hours), a massive trench that rises over 250 meters to form one of the most dramatic and spectacular natural sights in Morocco. The limestone stacks make a perfect area for trekking, and so today you will take a short walk through the sheer cliffs. Then continue on to the beautiful Dades Valley (approximately 1 hour), where you will spend the night and have some time to take in the remarkable scenery – sprawling green valleys and rocks sculpted into stunning formations by the wind.

Nicknamed the door of the desert, Ouarzazate is where productions such as Lawrence of Arabia, The Sheltering Sky and Black Hawk Down were filmed. Time permitting, you can take a tour of the Atlas Movie Studios. The rest of the afternoon is at your leisure to explore this fascinating city at your own pace.

Your own room at ‘Hotel Oscar’ or similar

Day 9 – Tuesday 20th April 2027
MARRAKECH (B)

This morning continue to your next destination of Ait Benhaddou. Centuries ago, this was an important stop for caravans carrying salt across the Sahara. Today its grand kasbah, a fine example of clay architecture, has been listed as a World Heritage site. Take a walk through the winding streets of the Old Town, making your way to the top of the hill for some scenic views. Afterwards, visit Tawesna – a local teahouse on the river – for a tasty Mint tea with some Moroccan sweets. This community-run establishment provides women with a small income to support themselves and their children. The women use natural ingredients sourced from local cooperatives to prepare the tea and pastries, taking great pride in sharing their stories and giving visitors an authentic Amazigh experience. Afterwards continue your drive through the winding roads of the Atlas, bound for Marrakech, an ancient, exotic city wrapped in European modernity. There’s no rush as the scenery through the High Atlas Mountain passes is magnificent, and there will surely be calls for several photo stops along the way. On arrival in Marrakech, you will check in to your hotel. This evening, head to the great square of Jemaa el Fna, one of the largest public spaces in the world and unique to Marrakech. When night falls it transforms into a hive of activity. Henna-painters, performers and storytellers share the square with a street food bazaar, packed with stalls loaded with Moroccan delicacies. Perhaps enjoy a dinner on this magical square with your new friends on one of the outdoor street food vendors and then finish your day with a cup of tea on one of the roof-top restaurants overlooking the square.

Day 10 – Wednesday 21st April 2027
MARRAKECH (B)

After breakfast we set off on a morning tour of the old medina, through the bustling souks that are the lifeblood flowing through the city. Explore tranquil courtyards filled with the scent of orange blossom, and the many salons and chambers that make up Bahia Palace. This splendid mansion was built in 1866 for a former slave who rose to power within the government. Stop by the Koutoubia Mosque; its famous minaret is the prototype for others of its kind around the world, including La Giralda in Seville. Then walk back through the streets of the old medina to the Jemaa el Fna. The rest of the day is free to explore further or shop in the bazaar. Perhaps visit the tropical gardens of the French painter Jacques Majorelle or check out the ruins of the Palais Badi, once one of the most beautiful palaces in the world, or head back into the medina and watch skilled artisans perfect their craft, practice your haggling skills or take a break from the hustle to sip on tea or share a tajine, filled with the pure scent of Morocco.

Included Activities

  • Marrakech – Guided walking tour
  • Marrakech – Palais Bahia

Your own room at ‘Hotel Grand Plaza’ or similar

Day 11 – Thursday 22nd April 2027
ESSAOUIRA (B)

Today head west towards the Atlantic Coast and the old fishing town of Essaouira, where the medina brushes up against the ocean. Sandstone walkways contrast with whitewashed houses, bright blue sky and surrounding beaches and dunes. This artists’ town was once home to sizeable British and Jewish populations, and its charm has seduced people like Orson Welles and Jimi Hendrix, who (according to local legend) spent time here in the 1960s. It is one of North Africa’s most attractive places, and you will soon find yourself slipping into the easy-going rhythm of this Moroccan town with a European seaside twist. Stay in a restored riad, a traditional nobleman’s house unique to Morocco, offering a calm oasis away from the buzz of the medina. Join a local guide for a walking tour through the old medina, Jewish mellah, port and skala (sea wall), then enjoy free time to explore. The narrow streets of Essaouira are ideal for casual exploration, their size discouraging cars and giving a sense that little has changed since the days of sea pirates. The fishing port is a lively commercial hub, where you can observe the daily catch and auction. Your accommodation is beautifully designed in traditional Moroccan style, cosy yet historical, with great views—likely to be one of the most memorable stays of your journey.

Included Activities

  • Guided tour of Essaouira

Your own room at ‘Hotel Palais des Remparts’ or similar

Weather

Morocco’s coastal regions enjoy a pleasant Mediterranean climate year-round. Inland areas are hotter and drier, with a more continental climate. From October to April, daytime temperatures in the lowlands average around 30°C, dropping to 15°C at night. Southern desert areas are extremely hot and dry most of the time, but nights can be surprisingly cold. In the mountains, summers are cool to cold, and snowfall typically occurs between December and March.

Currency

The official currency is the Moroccan dirham (dh), divided into 100 centimes (c). Centimes are still used in local markets more often than dirhams.

  • Coins: 10c, 20c, 50c, 1dh, 5dh, 10dh

  • Banknotes: 10dh, 20dh, 50dh, 100dh, 200dh

Foreign exchange offices are usually available in Morocco’s airports and seaports. Traveller’s cheques are generally not practical — they’re only accepted at banks and are rarely used. Major hotels accept credit cards, and ATMs are widely available in cities and towns.

Electricity

Morocco operates on 220 volts with two round-pin sockets (Type C or E). Bring a suitable adapter if you’re travelling with devices from countries using other plug types (like Australia, NZ, or the UK).

Visas

IMPORTANT: Visa and entry requirements can change at short notice. Check with the appropriate embassy or official visa service before travelling.

Currently, citizens of Australia, New Zealand, the United States, and Canada do not require a visa for tourist stays of up to 90 days. A passport valid for at least 6 months beyond your arrival date is required.

On arrival, travellers must complete an entry form detailing personal information, travel purpose, and occupation. Tip: If you’re a journalist, consider using an alternative job title, as Moroccan authorities have occasionally restricted entry to individuals listing that profession.

  • Guided tour of Essaouira

What Two’s a Crowd clients say

Isabella
I love the fact that it’s only a small group of travellers which we all got on with each other. Having a room to yourself is great, I used to share before and it does not work out most of the time. Love the fact that you don’t need to get up so early to start the day. Loved all the Riad we stayed at, the food was good. Gillian was very caring and looked after everyone. Mohammed our tour guide was caring funny and knew every there was about Morocco, I would have him again.
Kristen
It was a wonderful experience. We saw thing and places that were "off the beaten track" and they made some of the more uncomfortable bits all worthwhile. Having a Berber host in Mohummad was so worthwhile. He gave us access to so many unusual spots. He was very knowledgeable as well. I'd definitely go back. The riads were exceptional.
Janet
Tour leader Gillian could not have been a more professional, kind, cheerful (and always elegant) host. Mohamed was an excellent and extremely well-informed guide (although one would expect no less) with good English and a sense of humour
Tamar
It was a very enjoyable trip. Nice travelling in a smaller group as this allowed us to access and stay in riads rather than large commercial hotels. Our tour guide Mohammad was excellent. He was very knowledgeable and passionate about our tour
