Umed Bhawan Palace

The Palace was built as a residence for the personal use of the Maharao and his family, who until then lived at the City Palace (Garh) – which is now run as a non-profit Museum by the Rao Madho Singh Museum Trust. The Royal Family still maintains a portion of the Palace for their personal usage.

It was first converted into a Heritage Hotel in 1995 by Maharao Brijraj Singh of Kotah, and operated by ITC Hotels up to March 2023. The hotel is now run as a Heritage Hotel by the royal family themselves.

Today, the Palace serves as an exceptional reminder of the rich legacy of the Royal Family of Kotah – the proud line of Agnivanshi Hada Chauhans that ruled the Princely State of Kotah until the states merged with the Union of India in 1947.

Our large and spacious rooms have been tastefully decorated for our guests to experience the colours and textures of Rajasthan. Each room allows our guests to take in the regal atmosphere the regal trimmings of the Palace and take in its beautiful architecture and rich heritage.

Fateh Niwas

Nestled in the heart of the city of lakes, Fateh Niwas emanates a sense of splendour and grandeur.

The design of Fateh Niwas adheres to the signature style of Fateh Collection. It features an aesthetic centred around the traditions and rich heritage that shaped Rajasthan’s history. The hotel offers unique experiences, immaculate accommodations, opulent dining facilities and exquisite event venues. Fateh Niwas is also a proud participant in Fateh Collection’s legacy of pioneering an eco-friendly path in the hospitality industry. Credit to its impeccable services and facilities, Fateh Niwas has often been crowned one of the best heritage hotels in Udaipur. The property extends enticing panoramas of the grand City Palace, Jagmandir, Monsoon Palace and Lake Pichola, lined up against the backdrop of the Aravalli Hills. Amongst the endless facilities provided, we have a well-maintained swimming pool in addition to a spacious conference hall.

Deogarh Mahal

Deogarh Mahal is an imposing structure built in the 17th century. It stands atop a hill and offers a commanding view of the Aravalli mountain range and the numerous lakes, strewn across the countryside. Centuries in the making, Deogarh Mahal’s history begins far before the majestic palace was ever built. Even at first glance at the palace, it’s obvious that Deogarh Mahal has been an integral part of the Mewar aristocracy and heritage, passed down from many Rawats, a local title equivalent to Raja, to be used as a personal residence and fort.

As soon as you glimpse the Deogarh Mahal, you can see that its rulers must have been serious players in the Mewar aristocracy, their magnificent fort a fitting stronghold for one of its sixteen “umraos” – the most senior feudal barons attending on the Maharana of Udaipur. Even so, you might not necessarily guess that the Rawats of Deogarh (a local title equivalent to “Raja”) once ruled over the fourth largest jagir in the whole of Rajasthan. At its most extensive, their territory comprised some 210 villages, with one of their defensive forts as far as 100 km away. Yet there is little ostentation and even less gold to be found in their palace. Like most of the Mewar nobility, they spent too much time fighting to have much to spare for amassing great wealth.

Fort Chanwa Luni

Today, Fort Chanwa has been restored to its pristine glory and charm by its proud owners Maharaj Dalip Singh & Rani Madhu Devi, who warmly welcome travellers from distant lands offering them princely hospitality in an inimitably enchanting setting: a Heritage Hotel in the finest of traditions.

Heritage Hotel Fort Chanwa Luni is an exceptional example of elegance and symmetry in Indian architecture of the 18th century. The entire haveli is built out of the famous red sandstone of Jodhpur and with its ornately carved lattice work friezes and intricate “jharokas” or balconies it exquisitely captures the romance and grace of yesteryear.

This fortified haveli is composed of a complex of courtyards, towers, a water wheel, passages and unexpected stairways to secret pavilions and panoramic roof tops spanning the village below and the Thar horizon beyond. The traditional paintings on the walls harmoniously reflect the skills of the master craftsmen and the bygone days.

The village of Luni nestles in the shadow of the castle walls and is a hub of activity with its many artisans fashioning metal, clay or wood into intricate forms and demonstrating their skills passed down over the centuries by their ancestors.

DELHI

Delhi is India’s capital and seat of government. It forms the National Capital Territory of Delhi, rather than being part of a state. Delhi is one of India’s largest cities, and the core of one of the largest metropolitan areas in the world, with over 21 million inhabitants. Within India it is a major centre of arts, commerce, education, tourism, and transit. As the capital of several empires over the last 2000 years, Delhi also contains a striking array of well-preserved historic sites for tourists to visit. Delhi is said to be one of the oldest existing cities in the world, along with Jerusalem and Varanasi. Legend estimates it to be over 5,000 years old. Over the millennia, Delhi is said to have been built and destroyed 11 times. The oldest alleged incarnation of the city shows up in the Indian mythological epic Mahabharata as Indraprastha.

AGRA

Agra is the city of the Taj Mahal the historic mausoleum, in the north Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, some 200km from Delhi. It is 240km from Jaipur and is famed across the globe for it’s large legacy of monuments, old heritage, colourful bazars and tourist friendly behavior of the localites.

Agra has three UNESCO World Heritage sites, the Taj Mahal and the Agra Fort in the city and Fatehpur Sikri nearby. There are also many other buildings and tombs from Agra’s days of glory as the capital of the Mughal Empire. While Agra’s golden age was as the capital of the Mughal empire between 1526 and 1658, the city was founded much earlier. The earliest reference to Agra is in the ancient epic, the Mahabharata, while Ptolemy was the first person to call it by its modern name. The recorded history of Agra begins around the 11th century, and over the next 500 years, the city changed hands between various kings, both Hindu and Muslim.

JAIPUR

Jaipur is the largest city in Rajasthan and was built in the eighteenth century by Sawai Jai Singh as India’s first planned city. Jaipur is a major tourist attraction amongst Indian as well as international travellers. It belongs to the tourist Golden Triangle of Delhi, Jaipur and Agra. It hosts several attractions like the City Palace, Govind Dev ji Temple, Vidhan Sabha, Birla Temple, several massive Rajput forts and so on. It also serves as a stepping stone for travelers heading to the desert cities of Jodhpur and Jaisalmer. Now, Jaipur is growing fast and various development projects are being undertaken by the government and private enterprises. The town planning and infrastructure development in Jaipur is quite above the mark relative to many other Indian cities.

Jaipur is often called the Pink City in reference to its distinctly coloured buildings, which were originally painted this color to imitate the red sandstone architecture of Mughal cities. The present earthy red color originates from repainting of the buildings undertaken for a visit by the Prince of Wales in 1876.

JODHPUR

Jodhpur is an historic city whose origin dates to the year 1459 AD when it was founded by Rao Jodha, the Rajput chieftan of the Rathores. The Rathore kingdom was also known as the Marwar and was the largest in Rajputana. The city was built as the new capital of the state of Marwar to replace the ancient capital Mandore, the ruins of which can be seen near what is now the Mandore Gardens. The people of Jodhpur and surrounding areas are hence also commonly called as Marwaris.
Jodhpur is also known as the Blue City, an apt name as most houses in the old city are shades of blue. This is particularly noticeable on the north side of the town, known as Brahmpuri for the many Brahmins that live there. The forts and palaces, temples and havelis, culture and tradition, spices and fabrics, colour and texture, a booming handicrafts industry, all add up to make this historic city worth a visit.

PUSHKAR

Pushkar is a holy town in the state of Rajasthan famous for the Pushkar lake, various ghats and temples spread all around the lake.

The word ‘Pushkar’ means lotus flower, which is said to be the seat of Brahma, one of the Hindu holy trinity, who is worshipped as the creator of this world. The legend has it that the demon Vajra Nabha killed Brahma’s children, he in turn struck him with his weapon, a lotus flower. Vajra Nabha died with the impact, and the petals of the lotus fell at three places. One of them is Pushkar, where it gave birth to a lake. Brahma is supposed to have performed sacrifice at this lake on Kartik Purnima (the full moon day of the Kartik month (generally in the month of November)), hallowing the place.

Though Brahma is considered to be the creator of the world, Pushkar is the only temple of this important deity in the whole world. This is also considered as Adi Teerth or Teertharaj meaning ancient holy place or the most important of holy places respectively. There are not many temples built for Brahma because his influence to the daily life is considered not a big as Vishnu (Preserver), Shiva (Destroyer) and Ganesh (Remover of Obstacles). Being the creator, whatever being created is already there, whereas other deities’ need to be appeased so that any wishes or favours can be granted or fulfilled.

Fantastic first solo trip

I had a fantastic trip. Absolutely loved Canada and Alaska. It's the first time I have travelled solo and was pleasantly surprised to find a bunch of people that all got on so well. Diane our host was great. She did a good job of getting us altogether for meals, excursions, shopping trips etc. I liked that she quietly got things done without being loud or "in-your-face". She was good at being one of us as well as our leader. Wendy, Canada/Alaska

Good balance of activities and spare time

Had a great time. Good mixture of organised activities and spare time. Diane was an excellent tour host. Russell the tour guide was great, very knowledgeable and personable with his insights into growing up and living in Canada. Sharon, Canada/Alaska

Great holiday

What a great trip! I experienced so much and participated in all that was offered. I had read and reviewed as much as time allowed me but was not prepared for what the trip gave me and that is a better understanding of the beautiful people of both countries. - Lesley on Vietnam/Cambodia
