Croatia is often overlooked by travellers and I secretly admit that I’m glad. Situated on the Adriatic Sea it is one of the most beautiful European countries.

Here are our top five reasons why Croatia must be on your next to do list.

 

 

NATURAL BEAUTY

Croatia’s coastal landscape, mountains and valleys and national parks like the Mljet National Park embed themselves in visitors’ memories. Seasoned sailors have known about the amazing beauty of the Dalmatian Coast with its calm seas, views of exquisite towns built on slopes, bays of turquoise water and gorgeous islands.

 

 

FOOD

When it comes to cuisine, Croatia is ingredient – rich with fresh produce and delicious local seafood in abundance. It’s quite literally a fusion of Greek, Italian, Hungarian, Austrian and even Turkish. So your tastebuds can travel to 6 countries without leaving the dinner table.

Try Zagrebacki odrezak – veal steaks stuffed with ham and cheese and grilled with breadcrumbs or Janjetina – roasted lamb garnished with Mediterranean herbs. And if you’re into wine, Croatia has the perfect vine-growing climate, boasting an awesome variety of indigenous and regional grapes and the quality of what you’re drinking will speak for itself. CULTURE

Immerse yourself in the local culture. Hear traditional klapa singers in Split, buy Croatian embroidery in Dubrovnik, or stroll through a local markets with sights and smells reminiscent of Turkish bazaars. This place has it all.

CLIMATE

 

 

Croatia has a Mediterranean climate, which means mild winters and gorgeous spring and summer seasons. The average of sunshine hours is 2,600 per year making Croatia one of the sunniest regions on the Mediterranean basin. Best time to travel is anytime from late May all the way through to early October. August is probably the best time as it’s after the July tourist peak but still nice and warm (weather and water!).

HISTORY

 

Several Stone Age sites have been discovered all over the country along with numerous caves containing hand made objects from people alive centuries ago. Most towns have historical centres with typical Croatian architecture and gorgeous medieval towns encased in their original protective walls – a must-see.

Fantastic first solo trip

I had a fantastic trip. Absolutely loved Canada and Alaska. It's the first time I have travelled solo and was pleasantly surprised to find a bunch of people that all got on so well. Diane our host was great. She did a good job of getting us altogether for meals, excursions, shopping trips etc. I liked that she quietly got things done without being loud or "in-your-face". I had a fabulous time

I had a fabulous time. Lake Louise and the hotel were magnificent. The cruise was excellent. Diane made sure that she was available for group meals and sightseeing, and was alway in good humour and great fun.
