DAY 1 Monday 28th March 2022

MELBOURNE – ECHUCA MOAMA (L/D)

We make our way to Seymour for our morning stop, then on to Goorambat for lunch and our first experience of one of these amazing towering portraits. From there, it’s on to Devenish, St James, Tungamah and Rochester where we’ll take in a collection of the trail’s best works. Having spent our afternoon viewing the breathtaking art that adorns these silos, we head into Echuca for our first night’s group dinner and overnight accommodation.

Accommodation: Your own room at Meninya Palms, Moama or similar

DAY 2 Tuesday 29th March 2022

ECHUCA – SWAN HILL (B/D)

After a leisurely breakfast at our accommodation, we make our way into Echuca township to visit the recently refurbished and upgraded Port of Echuca. We’ll be taken back in time with a guided tour of the port. Following our tour, it’s time to board one of port’s historic paddlesteamers for a trip down the mighty Murray River. Prior to our departure from Echuca, we will have some free time to explore this wonderful area and enjoy lunch (at own expense). This afternoon we travel to the little town of Boort and visit the late, highly acclaimed artist John (the Spanner Man) and Sonia Piccoli’s gardens that contain many sculptures made from farm spanners and enjoy a presentation about how John started his craft. John’s works have been seen on many television programs including the ABC’s 7.30 Report. Afterwards, we reboard the coach and make our way to Swan Hill via more amazing silos in Nullawil and Sea Lake.

Accommodation: Your own room at Swan Hill Resort, Swan Hill or similar

DAY 3 Wednesday 30th March 2022

THE SILO ART TRAIL (B/D)

This morning we depart Swan Hill and head west to the two most northern silos on the Silo Art Trail, located in Lascelles. Heading south, we stop at the little township of Warracknabeal for lunch (at own expense) before making our way to a more recently painted silo at Roseberry, painted by acclaimed Melbourne artist Kaff-eine, who also assisted fellow artist Rone on the Lascelles silo. Continuing our journey down the Trail, our next silo is at Brim, painted by international street artist Guido Van Helten. This 30m x 30m painting took three weeks to complete using spray paint and acrylic house paint. From Brim, we’re off to Sheep Hills where renowned artist Adnate has painted Wimmera elders Ron Marks and Regina Hood together with a young indigenous boy and girl. The mural represents the passing of culture and knowledge from one generation to the next, especially the Aboriginal culture. Our last silo visit is in the tiny township of Rupanyup where we see the work of Russian artist Julia Volchkova who has captured the town’s youth and love of sport. Afterwards, we head to Horsham for the evening.

Accommodation: Your own room at Best Westlander Motor Inn, Horsham or similar

DAY 4 Thursday 31st March 2022

THE STICK SHED – DIMBOOLA (B/D)

This morning we have a bit of a later start, travelling to Murtoa to visit the amazing and historically significant Stick Shed before heading to Dimboola where we stop for lunch (at own expense). After lunch, we take a trip out to the Pink Lake providing a great photo opportunity, arriving back at our accommodation late in the afternoon.

Accommodation: Your own room at Best Westlander Motor Inn, Horsham or similar

DAY 5 Friday 1st April 2022

MELBOURNE (B/L)

This morning we head east towards home, but instead of the main highway, we venture in to a couple more of the smaller rural towns with artwork. First we’ll see the amazing work Hope on the silo at St Arnaud. Continuing east, we head to the old gold mining town of Wedderburn where we take in the amazing street art and see what will be one of the latest silo projects (hopefully!) completed. After our time in Wedderburn, we make our way to Bridgewater for lunch at the pub before heading down the Calder Highway towards Melbourne where we say goodbye in the late afternoon.

SILO ART TRAIL

The Silo Art Trail is Australia’s largest outdoor gallery. The trail stretches over 200 kilometres, linking Brim with neighbouring towns Lascelles, Patchewollock, Rosebery, Rupanyup and Sheep Hills.

Providing an insight into the true spirit of the Wimmera Mallee, the trail recognises and celebrates the region’s people through a series of large-scale mural portraits painted onto grain silos, many of which date back to the 1930s.

The project saw a team of renowned artists from Australia and across the world visit the region, meet the locals and transform each grain silo into an epic work of art; each one telling a unique story about the host town.

The Silo Art Trail was conceived in 2016 after the success of the first silo artwork in Brim. What started as a small community project by the Brim Active Community Group, GrainCorp, Juddy Roller and artist, Guido van Helten resulted in widespread international media attention and an influx of visitors to the region and the idea for a trail was born.

The Silo Art Trail was created as a partnership between Yarriambiack Shire Council, international street art agency Juddy Roller, Victorian Government, Australian Government and GrainCorp, who donated the silos as canvases for the artists’ work.
