Sri Lanka: Tourist visas for a stay of up to 30 days for citizens of Australia are electronic. No documents need to be mailed to VisaHQ for processing. You will receive your electronic visa via e-mail.

India: All visitors are required to carry a passport valid at least for 6 months after the date of arrival back to your country of residence and at least two blank pages. Australian and New Zealand passport holders may apply online for an Indian visa.

Currency

Sri Lanka: Travellers’ cheques aren’t normally accepted. Most major banks will allow Visa and Mastercard cash withdrawals. There are ATMs in major towns and cities but not all of them accept international cards.

India: The National Currency of India is the Indian rupee, which is available in denominations of Rs 10, Rs 20, Rs 50, Rs 100, Rs 500 and Rs 1000. There are coins for Re 1, Rs 2, Rs 5 and Rs 10. Banking in India has become quite easy now. ATMs are found in many cities in India except for the very small towns. Major international credit cards are widely accepted in the cities. Changing money in India especially in bigger metros is quite simple as there are many accredited money changers and most banks too change money. Moneychangers are open 24 hours at the airports and in hotels.

Climate

Sri Lanka: The country’s position close to the Equator means that at least one aspect of the weather in Sri Lanka, the temperature, remains fairly constant year-round. Coastal and lowland areas enjoy average daytime temperatures of around 26–30°C. During the hottest part of the day, they can often climb up well into the 30°Cs. Temperatures decrease with altitude, reducing to a temperate 18–22°C in Kandy. In Nuwara Eliya and the highest parts of the island, on average it’s a pleasantly mild 14–17°C.  Nights in the hills can be quite chilly, with temperatures sometimes falling close to freezing. Humidity is often another high everywhere. It can rise to a sweltering 90% at times in the southwest, and averages 60 to 80% across the rest of the island.
India: While the official monsoon season is July to September, the rains typically reduce from mid-September. Average temperatures also fall from monsoon peaks of up to 35 degrees to a more pleasant 30 degrees.

Electricity

Sri Lanka: the power plugs and sockets are of type D, M and G. The standard voltage is 230 V and the standard frequency is 50 Hz.

India: 230v 50hz  AC. Sockets are similar to those common in Europe (type C).

Fantastic first solo trip

I had a fantastic trip. Absolutely loved Canada and Alaska. It's the first time I have travelled solo and was pleasantly surprised to find a bunch of people that all got on so well.
