After breakfast, embark on a long-distance coach from Reykjavik to the ‘Into the Glacier’ experience. Venture into the heart of a colossal 953sq/km glacier, Langjökull, on a unique ice cap exploration. The man-made marvel offers a new perspective on the glacier’s grandeur. After this awe-inspiring adventure, we will continue to the enchanting Snafellsnes Peninsula, where we will stay for the next couple of nights.

WEST ICELAND (B,D)

Begin your day with breakfast at the hotel before embarking on a full day of exploration along the Snæfellsnes Peninsula. No wonder Jules Verne was inspired by this area for ‘Journey to the Centre of the Earth.’ Often called ‘Iceland in miniature,’ the peninsula offers a condensed showcase of iconic attractions and diverse natural wonders. Along your route, you’ll encounter Ytri-Tunga, a stunning beach frequented by impressive seal colonies, and the historic Budir Church situated amidst the unique lava field of Búðahraun. Marvel at the dramatic coast of Arnarstapi, characterized by relentless waves carving striking rock formations and the guardian statue of Bárður Snæfellsás. Capture stunning photos at the Lóndrangar basalt cliffs and the hauntingly beautiful black sand beach of Djúpalónssandur, which holds the echoes of a shipwreck’s story. Gaze upon the picturesque Kirkjufell mountain, a renowned Game of Thrones filming location, surrounded by streams and waterfalls. Traverse the ancient Bersekjahraun lava fields adorned with remarkable rock formations, created around 4,000 years ago. WEST ICELAND – SOUTH ICELAND (B,D) 

Today you will embark on a captivating journey through Iceland’s renowned Golden Circle, a must-visit attraction. The adventure encompasses three remarkable sites:

Gullfoss Waterfall: Gullfoss is a majestic cascade known for its awe-inspiring two-step drop of 32 meters. Rainbows frequently grace the scene, adding to its splendor. Viewing decks offer different perspectives, allowing you to witness the waterfall’s might from above and below. Walk a path that leads close to the plunge to feel the raw power of this natural wonder.

Geysir Geothermal Area: Immerse yourself in the Geysir area’s otherworldly landscape, featuring steam vents, hot ponds, and the star attraction, Strokkur Geyser. Every 10 minutes, Strokkur erupts, propelling water and steam 20 meters into the air. Well-laid paths guide you amidst fascinating geothermal features, ensuring you don’t miss a single marvel.

Þingvellir National Park: A UNESCO World Heritage site, Þingvellir holds immense historical and geological significance. It witnessed the establishment of the world’s first parliament by Vikings in 930 AD and rests atop the rift valley formed by the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates. Traverse in the footsteps of history along the impressive Almannagjá to Hakið, a panoramic viewpoint that offers a sweeping panorama. Today you will visit Iceland’s most iconic treasures on the Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon tour. Delve into the enchanting expanse of Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach, featuring striking basalt columns, towering sea stacks, and enigmatic basalt caves. Marvel at the Reynisdrangar basalt rock sea stacks, believed to be trolls caught by the dawn’s touch. Witness nesting seabird species, including the Atlantic Puffin, amid the cliffs and sea stacks. 

The legendary Skaftafell National Park offers breathtaking views of the Vatnajökull Glacier, known for its appearances in blockbuster films. Traverse to the crown jewel, Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, a dreamlike expanse fed by the retreating Vatnajökull ice cap. Nearby, the Diamond Beach enchants with glittering ice crystals, a magical contrast to the ebony sands. Today we will take you along Iceland’s South Shore, one of the country’s most picturesque regions, culminating at the charming village of Vík, surrounded by majestic bird cliffs. Today’s tour showcases nature’s finest gems, including the mesmerizing Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss waterfalls. Seljalandsfoss entices with a unique feature, allowing you to walk behind its cascading beauty – you might want to carry a raincoat for this one! Skógafoss, another iconic waterfall, has graced the silver screen in films like Thor: The Dark World and The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. 

Explore the stunning Reynisfjara black sand beach, adorned with the dramatic Reynisdrangar rock formations and enchanting columnar basalt. A stop by Sólheimajökull glacier reveals a small lake that’s formed before the retreating glacier. Your journey concludes with the ultimate relaxation at the Blue Lagoon. Formed in 1976, this geothermal oasis offers a soothing bath enriched with silica mud, minerals, and a tranquilizing temperature of 38°C (100°F). Unwind and replenish amid Iceland’s awe-inspiring wonders before heading back to Reykjavik for the night. Tonight we gather for our farewell dinner at a local restaurant.

After our final breakfast in this stunning country, we will have the morning to explore the vibrant heart of Reykjavik, where you’ll visit key landmarks including the historic Reykjavik Old Harbour, the architecturally stunning Harpa Concert Hall and the iconic Hallgrímskirkja Church. This towering church boasts a 73-meter spire, making it the city’s tallest structure. Immerse yourself in the enchanting world of FlyOver Iceland, a cutting-edge experience that grants the sensation of flight. 

Suspended with feet dangling, you’ll be transported on an exhilarating cinematic journey across Iceland’s diverse landscapes, with wind, mist and scents complementing the ride’s motion. This upscale hotel along bustling Laugavegur shopping street is a 6 minute-walk from Hallgrímskirkja cathedral and 48 km from the Keflavík International Airport. It’s 20 minutes on foot from the oceanfront Sun Voyager sculpture. Contemporary rooms feature free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, and tea and coffeemakers, as well as rainfall showers. In a valley along Route 1, this modern hotel with a sleek exterior is 11 km from Reynisfjara Beach and a 16-minute walk from paragliding at True Adventure. Visa Requirements for Iceland

Iceland is a member of the Schengen Area set by the European Union. As such, Britons and travellers from other European nations can travel freely to Iceland and across the continent. For those outside the Schengen area including Australians, New Zealanders, Americans, Canadians and those from certain Asian nations, there is visa-free access for 90 days in any 180-day period. South Africans and travellers from other Asian countries will need a visa to enter the Schengen states, including Iceland. Please check with your local Icelandic embassy for visa requirements before you travel.

Icelandic is the national language. English is spoken widely and Danish is the third language taught in schools in Iceland.
