Will you join us?

DAY 1 Wednesday 5th Oct 2022

NOOSA (D)

Welcome to the Sunshine Coast! Today is an arrival day with no activities included. Noosa is one of the most popular beach destinations in Australia, so you won’t have any trouble finding things to do before your group meeting at 6pm tonight. Maybe shop the Original Eumundi Markets, featuring works by local artists and designers, or dine on locally caught seafood along the river. Don’t worry about being rushed to fit everything in—tomorrow is another free day in Noosa with a variety of optional activities to choose from. After your group meeting, you may wish to gather your travel mates for a dinner out or maybe a cocktail along the water. It’s very important that you attend the welcome meeting as we will be collecting insurance and emergency contact details at this time. If you are going to be late, please let your Two’s a Crowd host know.

Accommodation: Your own room at Twin Quays in Noosa or similar

DAY 2 Thursday 6th Oct 2022

NOOSA (B)

Today is a free day to explore more of Noosa at your leisure. You might opt to head out for a surf lesson on Noosa’s famous swells—the town is considered one of the world’s best for surfers. Or maybe head out for an evening river cruise where you can kick back and relax as the sun sets.

Accommodation: Your own room at Twin Quays in Noosa or similar

DAY 3 Friday 7th Oct 2022

FRASER ISLAND – MILE BEACH (B/L)

This morning you will drive 2 hours to the ferry that will transport you across the water to the stunning Fraser Island (a 10-minute crossing). Once you’ve arrived on the world’s largest sand island, take a 4WD drive along 75 Mile Beach – Fraser Island’s own “highway” complete with speed limits. Enjoy morning tea on the beach before your adventure really begins, with a drive to the famous Lake McKenzie, one of the most popular and picturesque highlights of Fraser. You’ll stop for lunch here, with some free time to relax on the white sand beach or swim in the lake’s amazingly clear waters. Fun fact: because Lake McKenzie sits above the water table, it is comprised entirely of rainwater and is too pure for the typical plants and fish you’d find in most lakes. Head onwards to the ancient rainforest-surrounded Central Station, Wanggoolba Creek and Pile Valley before driving up to your beachside accommodation. Settle in for an early dinner and some well-deserved drinks!

Accommodation: Your own room at Fraser Island Retreat or similar

DAY 4 Saturday 8th Oct 2022

FRASER ISLAND – ELI CREEK (B/L)

Today begins with a quick breakfast to fuel your busiest day on Fraser Island. First stop is Eli Creek, a beautifully clear creek that’s perfect for a relaxing swim. Travelling north, stop at the Maheno Shipwreck for a photo opportunity and a short history lesson about this famous Fraser Island icon, before continuing on to Indian Head, Fraser Island’s highest point. While climbing the headland is forbidden, you may be lucky enough to see whales and sharks in the ocean before travelling to the delightful Champagne Pools for a dip. Lunch is served at either the Maheno Shipwreck or the Champagne Pools, depending on time constraints and tidal safety. In the afternoon, travel back to your beachside accommodation for dinner and drinks.

Accommodation: Your own room at Fraser Island Retreat or similar

DAY 5 Sunday 9th Oct 2022

FRASER ISLAND – LAKE WABBY (B/L)

Start with breakfast before driving to the beginning of Lake Wabby walk, where you’ll stride through the dunes to find a tropical paradise. Enjoy some lunch before you drive down the beach and back to the barge, where you’ll hop the ferry over to the mainland, and drive back to Noosa for your final night. You may want to gather your travel group for a goodbye dinner at one of the local restaurants in town—be sure to ask your local leader for their recommendations.

Accommodation: Your own room at Twin Quays in Noosa or similar

Fraser Island

In 1972 UNESCO adopted the World Heritage Convention to protect special places for all humanity. Fraser Island was World Heritage listed by UNESCO in 1992 in recognition of its natural values.

The official citation pays tribute to the island’s “exceptional natural beauty” and refers to “over 250km of sandy beaches with long, uninterrupted sweeps of ocean beach, with more than 40km of strikingly coloured sand cliffs, as well as spectacular dune blowouts and ocean surf beaches; tall rainforests growing on low nutrient sands; perched dune lakes including both clear “white water” lakes and dark “black water” lakes; banksia woodlands, heath, patterned swampy fens and sheltered mangrove areas in a spectacular “mosaic landscape.”

Fraser Island provides a globally significant example of geological processes and biological evolution, including: complex coastal dune formations that are still evolving; an array of lakes that is exceptional in terms of number, diversity, age and the evidence of dynamic and developmental stages; and outstanding examples of ecosystems that have developed in response to maritime conditions and poor soils in coastal dune formations.

The whole of the island is part of Great Sandy National Park (other than freehold areas such as townships) and is protected under the Nature Conservation Act 1992 and the Recreation Areas Management Act 2006 to the low water mark.
