Scandinavia: 1 - 15 December 2018 A$8,495 plus air

Known for its majestic mountains, fabulous fjords and the northern lights, Scandinavia will take your breath away with its epic expanses of wilderness and intoxicating pure air. Join us on our 15 day solo tour and discover all that this fabulous region has to offer.

We start with a walking tour of Bergen before embarking on a 7 day Norwegian coastal voyage on board Hurtigruten’s MS Nordkapp.  

Described as one of the world’s most beautiful coastal voyages, we call on a number of smaller ports as well as calling on all the big cities, whilst discovering some of the most stunning coastal scenery on the planet. 

We visit Saariselka for an exhilarating husky dog safari and take a trip to Santa Claus Village to meet the man himself! There's time to explore the city of Rovaniemi before we finish our tour in spectacular Helsinki.

So that's 15 days exploring a region of lush lands, breathtaking waterways, majestic mountains and colorful towns.

You’ll meet your group at the airport and be transferred to your hotel. This evening we’ll enjoy a welcome dinner where you can meet your tour hosts and fellow travellers.

Today we set off on a walking tour of Bergen’s historic centre taking in the Fish and Flower Market, the Old Bryggen Harbour and the ancient Maria Church. After a short drive we’ll stop at Troldhaugen, the home of Norway’s most famous composer Edvard Grieg. Next we return to Bergen and the rest of the day is yours to explore or relax. This evening we transfer to the pier to board the famous Hurtigruten ship for our Norwegian coastal voyage. Get ready to enjoy the relaxed life onboard and the spectacular winter landscapes.

On our first day onboard we visit a number of ports including Florø, Måløy, Torvik, Ålesund and Molde. We navigate through skerries and islands before reaching the beautiful town of Ålesund, renowned for its Art Nouveau architecture.

Today we visit the ports of Kristiansund, Norway’s first capital Trondheim and Rørvik. The warehouses built on wooden stilts along the river are a colourful contrast to the pure white snow that usually covers the city during winter.

On day 5 we visit the ports of Brønnøysund, Sandnessjøen, Nesna, Ørnes, Bodø, Stamsund and Svolvær. We cross the Arctic Circle, where the hunt for the spectacular Arctic light begins. This occasion is marked with an Arctic Circle baptism on deck. Later we enter the dramatic and narrow Raftsund.

Today we make our way to the ports of Stokmarknes, Sortland, Risøyhamn, Harstad, Finnsnes, Tromsø and Skjervøy. After a morning stop in Finnsnes, we continue to Tromsø, sailing along the coast for our chance to see the Northern Lights., where we gather on deck for a glimpse of this breathtaking phenomenon.

Today we visit Øksfjord, Hammerfest, Havøysund, Honningsvåg - the nearest port to the North Cape, Kjøllefjord, Mehamn and Berlevåg. 

We pass a rock formation that is sacred to the Sámi people, Finnkirka, where we enjoy a spectacular light display.

Today we make our way to the ports of Båtsfjord, Vardø, Vadsø and Kirkenes. The turning point of our coastal voyage is just 10kms from the Russian border. The vistas and sea life become more dramatic as you approach Kirkenes and the Sami communities of Northern Finland. 

On arrival at the pier in Kirkenes we disembark the ship and continue by private coach for a short drive through Kirkenes, with a quick visit to the Russia Border, before continuing to Inari, with a stop at the SIIDA Sami Museum. 

We continue to Saariselka (a ski resort in the mountains) for check in before dinner. Tonight we’ll enjoy the unique experience of staying in a glass roof cabin.

This morning after breakfast we embark on an exhilarating husky dog safari through breathtaking scenery, before enjoying lunch. 

The rest of the afternoon and evening are free for you to explore at leisure and take in the beautiful surroundings.

After breakfast we set off to visit Santa Claus Village, with the possibility of meeting Santa Claus himself! Later we make our way to Rovaniem.

Days 11 and 12: ROVANIEM

Days 11 and 12 are free to explore the city of Rovaniemi, or why not try an optional excursion.

After an early breakfast, we travel by train from Rovaniemi south through the Finnish country side to Helsinki.

Today we head to the ferry terminal for a morning ferry to Tallinn. On arrival we set off with our local English Speaking Guide for a private tour of Tallinn, heading down the winding, cobble stoned streets of the Old Town, to visit the Dome Church, Toompea Hill and the Aleksander Nevskij Cathedral. This evening, we’ll enjoy a fabulous farewell dinner in Helsinki to mark the conclusion of our epic journey.

On our last day on tour we set off on a 3 hour orientation tour of Helsinki, visiting the Senate Square, Uspenskij Cathedral and the unique Rock Church. After the tour, we return to our hotel for a group transfer to the airport or onwards to further adventures!

Augustin Hotel: Set in a 1909 art nouveau building, this family-run hotel is a 12-minute walk from the Bryggen medieval wharf area and a 13-minute walk from the Bergen Aquarium. The modern rooms feature vivid decor and offer free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, minibars and radiant bathroom floors. Upgraded rooms offer sitting areas with sofabeds, and some have original artwork. Room service is also offered. Amenities include free organic breakfast, an exercise room and bike rentals. There's also a 400-year-old restaurant and wine bar with log beams and stone walls, serving updated Nordic fare.

Northern Lights Village: In a forested and hilly area off highway 4, this rustic hotel is less than 1 km from the town center and 3 km from the Kaunispää fell. The woodsy cabins with partial glass roofs feature sofabeds and minibars. En suite bathrooms have limited hot water. All meals are complimentary and served in a restaurant that has a fireplace and windows overlooking a reindeer paddock. Activities include snowmobile safaris, Northern Lights hunts and photography workshops, as well as snowshoeing. Minimum-stay rules may apply.

Santa's Hotel Tunturi: A 10-minute walk from Saariselkä village this cozy hotel is adjacent to ski and hiking trails. Warmly decorated rooms have free Wi-Fi, sofabeds, tea and coffeemakers and TVs. Upgraded rooms add couches, minifridges, balconies and saunas; apartments have lounges, kitchenettes and saunas. Breakfast, a sauna, a fitness room and a drying room are included. There are 2 restaurants, a dinner club, entertainment and a private cabin restaurant (seasonal). A casual pub/restaurant is open all year. A solarium with sun beds, a private sauna and meeting facilities are available. Snowmobile, ski and bus tours, ice-fishing and massages can be arranged.

Scandic Hotel RovaniemiAn 11-minute walk from Arktikum Science Museum, this modest hotel with a glass facade is 1.3 km from Rovaniemi Church, and 8 km from Santa Claus Village. Featuring warm decor, the relaxed rooms offer shared or en suite bathrooms, plus free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs and desks; some have seating areas. Upgraded rooms add minibars and coffeemakers. Breakfast is complimentary, and a bright restaurant in the atrium serves Scandinavian cuisine. There's also a gym and a sauna. Business facilities are available, and pets are welcome.

Original Sokos Hotel VaakunaThis elegant hotel is next to Helsinki Central Station, 5 minutes’ walk from the Esplanadi shopping streets. It offers a rooftop terrace, in-room flat-screen TVs, plus free sauna and WiFi access. Original Sokos Hotel Vaakuna Helsinki was built for the 1952 Olympics and is set in a heritage-listed building. The soundproofed rooms include air conditioning, a minibar and modern décor. The stylish á la carte restaurant offers a mix of Finnish and international dishes. After-dinner drinks can be enjoyed in the bar, which offers magnificent views of Helsinki’s bustling city centre. 

The MS NordkappThe MS Nordkapp is named after one of the highlights of the Hurtigruten voyage, the northernmost point of mainland Europe, the North Cape. Being an expedition ship she comes fully equipped with her own expedition team. The stylish, Scandinavian interior provides an ideal setting for exploring the coast. The ship was built in 1996 and features artworks from the renowned Norwegian artist, Karl Erik Harr. Often referred to as “The World’s most beautiful voyage”, this incredible scenic experience from Bergen to Kirkenes along the rugged coast of Norway is like no other. The Hurtigruten translates to “the fast route” and has been operating since 1893. With local experience and navigational expertise, the voyage has been able to morph into a spectacular journey providing exceptional experiences.” 


Generally, you can expect mixed weather during your trip to Scandinavia. Please note, however, that this is a general guide to weather for the region. It may be much colder while touring the mountains.

Scandinavia accepts all credit cards at most major stores, hotels, and restaurants. Make sure to have your credit card’s PIN code and a picture ID when using your credit card for purchases in stores, etc. Exchange Rates. The monetary unit in Norway, Denmark, Sweden and Iceland is one krone (equals 100 ore). In Finland, it is one euro (equals 100 euro cents). The currencies of the five countries are not interchangeable.


All countries use 220/230 volts AC current, with the wall outlets using various volt types. Check your camera and/or laptop computer chargers – your may be able to use it with an adapter for the electrical outlet.


Generally not required for stays of up to 90 days; some nationalities will need a Schengen visa.
